Having security systems at home or at the office is a must nowadays. The rapid increase of population can be parallel to increase of crimes, which makes us all vulnerable to danger. But due to several technological developments, it is safe to say that we can prevent such crimes and accidents to happen, thanks to different security systems available in the market.
Fire-related incidents are one of the most common in the world, claiming millions of lives and ruining millions worth of properties. Fires can be caused by simple things such as human negligence to more complicated ones such as those caused by nature. However, they are also the most preventable among all.
Governments of different countries have been campaigning regarding fire prevention for a long time now. Its main goal is to reduce such emergencies and the damages caused by fires. They do this by teaching the people, especially the children and the seniors, different precautions that they could do.
One of the precautions that fire prevention encourages to do is the use security systems such as fire alarms. Studies show that fire alarms play a huge role in saving people’s lives and their properties. They decrease the chances of deaths by almost half. Survivors can attest that their fire alarms were able to alert them, enabling them to get themselves and their family out of their house before it got burned down. Because of this, a fire alarm is actually considered one of the most important thing everyone needs to have in their own home. You only have to make sure that fire alarms are strategically-placed in different places in your homes.
Security systems such as fire alarms are indeed a good investment. Their functionality and the security they provide for you and your properties are worth every penny.

Mine Safety.
New South Wales Minerals Council (NWSMC) has once again awarded top prizes for Occupational Health & Safety Innovations in mine safety for 2010. This time the prestigious award was granted to Centennial Coal’s Centennial Hydraulic Isolation Control System (CHICS) innovation. CHICS will is an innovation used for controlling ultra high pressure hydraulic systems that are common throughout the industry. Needless to say, this innovation passed the NSWMC’s criteria with flying colours.
Criteria for the 2009 Occupational Health & Safety Innovation Awards include the following:
a. modified or new OH & S management process
b. targeted OH & S training programme
c. development of safer work system and,
d. modification or design of machinery and equipment
41 entries heard the call for innovations in 2009, and each entry was studied and given ample time to prove its worthiness for the award. Eventually, 9 entries were picked as the cream of the crop. Of course, aside from the CHICS innovation, other technologies are worth mentioning. Particularly the Fire and Water entry from Rio Tinto, which paid attention to the importance of equipment preservation.
The next innovation to catch the judges’ expert eyes was Handle with Care, which was acclaimed by the judges for its capacity to get workers out of harm’s way quickly and without risking further danger. Risk management principles were clearly applied to this innovation—something that the judges really liked.
Australia happens to be one of the biggest mining nations in the world, and NWSMC aims to promote a profitable, healthy economy. NWSMC also aims to achieve excellent standards when it comes to safety and occupational health. Hence, the mining council is doing its best to hold annual Occupational Health & Safety Innovation Awards, which will greatly benefit the mining community as well as the country.
